Utilizing new bonding technology, silver Mercury fillings
are now unnecessary. It is no longer required to have a
silver or black "badge" announcing to the world that you
have had cavities.
We do not believe in silver Mercury fillings in our office
and have not placed any in several years. First, there is
the Mercury issue. Although it has never been proven that
mercury from silver amalgams is harmful, we do know that
Mercury itself is harmful and these fillings do contain
some Mercury. Since we only provide the very best for out
patients, staff and families, we prefer to err on the side
of caution.
Secondly, silver mercury fillings weaken the tooth with
time due to the fact that there is little or no adhesion.
This is why when your silver filling breaks it usually
takes a part of the natural tooth along with it, leaving a
lot of leakage and decay behind.
Thirdly, and very importantly in a cosmetic practice such
as ours - A tooth colored filling looks much more
natural. As long as meticulous attention to detail is
used, a tooth colored, bonded filling will be long
lasting, Mercury free and virtually undetectable in the
mouth. A beautiful, "metal-free" mouth is possible.
